The Opportunity: DFCU Financial is seeking a VP, Sr Underwriter to join our Commercial Banking team. In this role, qualified candidates will perform all duties related to underwriting a loan request (whether new, existing, or for a periodic annual review) and assist in monitoring the commercial loan portfolio (such as covenant testing, borrowing base monitoring, etc.). Underwriting entails understanding and analyzing business financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and statement of cash flows. A working knowledge of commercial loan types, collateral, structures, and practices is needed as well. Underwrite loan applications to render decisions and communicate required information to appropriate individuals. Assist loan officers with collection of financial information and any other reporting requirements. Serve as a resource for members and branch personnel on underwriting and compliance questions. What You’ll Do: Prepare loan approvals containing complete and accurate analysis, including highlighting a borrower’s strengths and weaknesses to enable an approver to make an informed decision. Spread and analyze financial statements; analysis to include, but not limited to, global cash flow analysis, working capital, liquidity, leverage, trend analysis, margins, expenses, collateral valuation, and guarantor analysis. Assist in portfolio monitoring process by preparing periodic relationship reviews, testing financial covenants, and monitoring borrowing bases. Meet expected service levels related to recommended loan decision and due diligence requirements. Collect application and due diligence information from loan officers. Contribute to the achievement of the Commercial Banking team goals as it relates to revenue growth, portfolio growth, asset quality and compliance. Maintain knowledge of DFCU policies and procedures. Maintain knowledge of Business Compliance Regulations. Maintain loan files in OnBase. Respond to business lending phone inquiries from internal departments. Provide exceptional customer service. Assist management as required. What You’ll Need: Four-year degree, accounting or finance preferred, or equivalent related experience. Master’s Degree with a business focus preferred, but not required. Ten years or more of commercial lending or credit experience. Demonstrated ability for high attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to underwrite and analyze more complex credit transactions. Demonstrated financial institution product and service knowledge. Consistent positive, cooperative, self-motivated, courteous and professional attitude. Ability to verbally communicate appropriately with others, and appropriately respond to a supervisor. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication. Ability to manage multiple and changing deadlines with limited supervision.
