Essential Job Functions:
• Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
• Oversees, coordinates, and leads worship/religious services, education studies, and other programs.
• Makes pastoral visits new admissions, current individuals living at the center, individuals who are critically ill, and their relatives and family members.
• Establish and maintain positive, supportive relationships with staff, individuals, and their family members. (on-going)
• Provides worship experiences, which allow participants to express spiritual needs and beliefs while learning to participate in the general community worship services.
• Implement programs to provide for full participation by individuals in the religious observances of their choice.
• Provide religious education to develop religious knowledge, devotional habits, musical and artistic expression, and prayer skills.
• Provides pastoral care for individuals, their family as requested.
• Works as a member of an interdisciplinary team as requested to assist in evaluating individual religious needs and developing means to assist in participation in religious expression.
• Serve as religious liaison between the facility and the religious community.
• Serves on various committees as assigned.
• Serves as the liaison between the Center and the Family Association.
• Conducts other duties as assigned by supervisor
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
• Experience in ministerial work in a parish, religious, or chaplaincy setting.
• Ability to work with variety of people who have various beliefs, religious ideas, and backgrounds.
• Dedication to public service and care of people with intellectual/developmental disabilities, commitment to excellence in service delivery, personal integrity, recognition of individual worth and common needs of all people, history of establishing positive relationships with co-workers, good working knowledge of rules of Health and Human Services agency rules, policies, procedures, ability to effectively communicate information to others and carry out instructions, positive leadership skills, working knowledge of basic principles.
• Knowledge of the religious beliefs and policies of various communities, groups, and denominations.
• Experience with end of life planning/counseling.
• Ability and desire to plan, coordinate, lead worship services.
• Preferred: Post graduate study in Sociology/Social Work, Psychology and Religion Ordination, Theology, Ministry, Counseling, or related field.
• Experience as an ordained minister in a parish setting or chaplaincy, including satisfactory completion of some Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in an accredited clinical pastoral education center.
• Written endorsement by the endorsing agent of the denomination or church is required
Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Position may be required to drive and require a valid Driver’s License and eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
Initial Selection Criteria:
• Experience as a minister in a religious setting or chaplaincy.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor-Master of Divinity, Bachelor-Master of Theology, Bachelor-Master of Religious Education, or a related field is generally preferred.
• Supervisory experience.
• Completion of some clinical pastoral education (CPE) in an accredited clinical pastoral education center OR ability to obtain within 1 year of hire. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Additional Information:
The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range.

• Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
