The General Manager is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of the business and financial position of the Corporation to the President.
The General Manager reports directly to, and is fully accountable to the President.
The following positions report directly to the General Manager.
Requires a minimum of ten(10) years experience in the Metal Machining field. Must have a core focus in divisional management, with an emphasis on people and revenue development. Experience must include total company responsibility as an Operations Manager, General Manager, or President.
Prefer fifteen (15) years in a small, but growing, company, or division of a larger company, with total responsibility and authority to direct that unit to successful years of revenue and profit growth.
Must be a skilled negotiator with a demonstrated record of success in conducting contract negotiations with customers and suppliers.
Must be a dynamic individual who is 100% customer oriented, with the ability and skills to mold and motivate a team of dedicated managers, and the company as a whole, to achieve the goals established by the President.
Must have the ability to meet or exceed sales forecasts, and develop operating budgets to attain those annual goals.
Must have a total understanding of the work performed by all functions reporting to him/her, the perceptive skills to detect presentations of less-than-accurate information from those functions, and the presence of mind to take swift corrective action.
Must be able to comprehend business math calculations, understand financial statements, and interpret data from the various reporting departments. Must have extensive experience in estimating, pricing, and production processes in the Metal Machining sector, and have the ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets and word processing tools
The essential functions of the General Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following authorities and responsibilities:
Carry out the goals, plans, and mission of the Company as established by the President.
Keep the President informed, in a timely manner, of the condition of the Company, in both the operational and financial arena.
Act as deputy, and sign checks and contracts on behalf of the President when delegated to do so.
Control the management direction of the Company.
Prepare, and justify, a Capital Expenditure budget.
Ensure all assets of the company are fully utilized and are producing maximum possible return on investment.
Attain, or exceed, the established revenue goals.
Attain, or exceed, established profit goals by justifying and controlling all expense items.
Remain at, or below, the established annual budget in all operational/managerial areas.
Ensure that all actions of the Company are accomplished in an ethical and prudent manner.
Maintain, and increase, the company’s stature in the market place.
Perform a wide variety of duties involving an in depth knowledge of Company operations and activities, Develop systems, methods, procedures, programs, and reports to meet specific plans and objectives outlined by the President.
Prepare, in conjunction with all Company managers, an operating and capital budget to meet established Company goals.
Ensure that all expenses are being monitored, and all projects will remain within the budgeted amount.
Review all quotes and bids produced by the Company, and ensure rigorous follow-up to maximize “wins”.
Negotiate all contracts on the Company s behalf.
Ensure control of costs to achieve operating profit at established goals.
Review operational summary reports to determine current status versus monthly, and annual, goals.
Monitor inventory reports to control proper investment in inventory and ensure adequate inventory turns.
Examine the Company s operational budget, and justify all variances to the President.
Develop format for, and conduct weekly operational and monthly budget meetings with all Team Managers. Keep them informed on matters affecting the successful performance of their jobs, the status of special projects, and the company and industry as a whole.
Create, and maintain, a work environment that shows concern for people as much as for property. Promote the development and growth of each individual employee to the level of their capability.
Ensure that all personnel actions are conducted within company policies and procedures, and do not violate any State or Federal laws.
Ensure company compliance with all City, State, and Federal laws and statutes regarding taxes, labor laws, and other governmental regulations.
Advise, counsel, and discipline employees reporting to him/her, and conduct Key Management changes when and where necessary.
Review, annually, the employee benefit package for any suggested additions, revisions, or deletions.
Ensure that all employees read, understand, and sign that they are aware of their personal job description.
Evaluate the performance of the employees reporting to him/her and review their evaluation with them at least once a year.
Ensure that customer service and quality of work-product meets or exceeds customers expectation.
Ensure that all customer complaints are acted upon, and results are being monitored. Settle all complaints that have not been, or cannot be, settled at the Managerial level.
