Apex Systems Looking for Director – Head of RNA Production at Cambridge, MA Full Time

Job Scope & Purpose:

Our client is an innovator of novel therapies for diseases currently not treatable with existing approaches. We’re looking for a talented leader to spearhead the expansion of the RNA production department and coordinate the fulfillment of needs across programs and research efforts. The ideal candidate is a process-oriented team builder with deep expertise in long RNA synthesis and purification and will be able to apply their experience to scale and streamline production capabilities.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Develop a multi-function team strategy and structure, recruit personnel, and build scalable capabilities
• Lead the production team to generate research-grade material in support of therapeutic programs and platform research projects
• Work closely with the CMC team to transfer/develop processes and assays for manufacturing of lead product
• Lead and support the development and implementation of automated workflows for high-throughput production of high-quality RNA at small and medium scales
• Maintain raw material inventories and plan inventory and equipment requisitions
• Lead drafting of SOP’s and production records
• Lead the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive production request and tracking system with batch records/QC reports and inventory
• Manage production timelines and work with other teams to define and meet needs

Primary Job Requirements:

• PhD with 6+ years or BS/MS with 12+ years of relevant industry experience
• Strong background RNA synthesis using in vitro transcription is a must
• Broad technical expertise in RNA synthesis and purification (TFF, chromatography, HPLC etc)
• Experience automating biological molecule production and analytical workflows preferred
• Proven track record of collaboration and positive influence across the organization at all levels
• Demonstrated ability to present complex technical topics to a wide range of audiences with varying technical depth
• Ability to manage and motivate teams scientists, engineers and direct reports in leadership roles across multiple disciplines
