Apex Systems Looking for Scientist/Sr. Scientist, Biophysics at Boston, MA Full Time

Job Scope & Purpose:

Our exclusive client just underwent a significant M&A and is building out its Boston-based research efforts in oncology and other areas. This team is extremely well funded with a multimillion dollar research and development budget and are looking to bring on expertise in biophysics and SPR to their team. The newly established and highly dynamic group’s mission encompasses both target ID and the discovery and development of novel therapeutics. He or she will bring deep experience in small-molecule SPR assay development and prosecution to support drugging strategy development and lead discovery across the entire portfolio. Dual leadership from the bench and in the mentoring of internal scientists and external CRO teams is required.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Contribute your expertise to the R&D strategy and oversight by serving as a key member of the Biochemistry team. Collaborate on the development of drugging campaigns to develop oncology therapeutics, evaluate, and deploy novel technologies.
• Develop, validate, and transfer to internal and external screening groups SPR-based biophysical assays; lead screening campaigns; deliver hits to enable the launch of drug discovery programs.
• Guide medicinal chemistry teams through the delivery of high-quality SAR-enabling experimental data to enable the maturation of fragment hits to lead-like molecules
• Mentor and develop junior staff

Primary Job Requirements:

• BS/MS with 5 years of experience; or a Ph.D. in a related field with 0-5 years of experience
• Hands-on SPR small molecule expertise
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret, integrate, and analyze complex data sets
• Strong attention to detail
• Experience in Fragment Based Drug Discovery and an understanding of enzyme kinetics is preferred
