Department Information
The Library and Cultural Services Departments vision is to empower an environment of lifelong learning and cultural enrichment by stimulating learning and literacy, inspiring creativity, and integrating arts, culture and history into the lives of Aurorans. Position Information
The Staff Training and Volunteer Technician will perform administrative work in coordinating staff training activities and tracking department volunteer activity.
The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinating training for department staff including in-person and online opportunities
- Tracking staff completion of required training and follow up to ensure compliance
- Planning and coordinating the annual staff training day
- Tracking and coordinating annual and periodic employee recognition programs including years of service awards
- Compiling and updating staff training library materials
- Tracking department volunteer opportunities and ensuring all volunteer requirements are met
- Coordinating with volunteer contacts at multiple locations to ensure consistent volunteer standards
- Maintaining volunteer information in the volunteer statistics database
- Attending periodic volunteer committee meetings
- Assisting management with new employee orientation and on-boarding
- Tracking and administering library meeting room rentals
- Performing background checks on department contractors
- Maintaining various records and systems
- Compiling and generating reports
- Providing customer service and responding to inquiries
- Performing additional duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
- 2 years of clerical and/or training coordination experience
Abilities:
- Use of personal computers and spreadsheet applications
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and external customers
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to think creatively, and the ability to utilize the internet as a research tool
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Skills:
- Strong accuracy and organizational skills
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
- When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel
Physical Demands:
- Sedentary physical work lifting no more than 10 pounds
- Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing
- Frequent hand/eye coordination for operation of office equipment
- Vision for reading and interpreting reports and data analysis and preparation
- Speech communication, hearing and listening to maintain communication with employees and citizens?
Work Environment:
- Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment.
Equipment Used:
- Frequently uses standard office equipment including personal computers, calculators and copy/fax machines.
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment
