JOB TITLE

Mobility Applications Engineer

GENERAL PURPOSE

As a Mobility Applications Engineer, you’ll apply standard engineering principles, concepts, theories, and techniques to routine assignments in support of business objectives and will be responsible for providing fundamental engineering leadership and expertise. You will conduct feasibility studies, determine manpower and cost estimates and develop engineering criteria. Additionally, you’ll perform primary analyses to develop design options or recommendations for structures, systems, and components. The ideal candidate will apply originality, ingenuity, and knowledge of other disciplines in solving basic technical issues. Emphasis will be placed on team participation, ability to plan, and ability to achieve results on assigned projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Apply basic supply chain cost, value stream capabilities, and economic principles.
• Apply learned engineering skills to work assignments.
• Apply problem-solving skills and executes solutions to problems independently. Coaches basic engineering tasks to others.
• Complete engineering tasks within the oversight of leadership.
• Follow engineering and quality processes.
• Manage Capital Procurement projects for Manufacturing line updates and installations.
• Seek and receive mentoring from senior-level and engineering leadership.
• Seek approval from the budget owner using an appropriate request process.
• Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
• Develop and implement electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery.
• Install and provides technical support for PLC-based hardware and software.
• Integrate robotic cells for manufacturing.
• Deploy mobility solutions (AGVs, AMRs, Conveyance, Robotics, and AS/RS).

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering- Mechanical, Manufacturing, PDM, or equivalent. Electrical engineering is preferred.
• 3-5 years of professional engineering experience or 2-3 years of specialty engineering experience.
• Experience with AGV or AMR systems is a strong plus.
• Project management experience may be essential for some assignments. Knowledgeable in Lean principles and application.
• Must be able to assess process concepts and determine where continuous improvement opportunities exist.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with people at various levels including production, engineering, and management.
• Ability to work well with and develop a partnering relationship with other team members.
• Knowledgeable in the use of common office automation, communication, software, and tools.
• Knowledge of Herman Miller mainframe applications and engineering-related software is a plus.
• Must be a skilled problem solver and be able to apply engineering expertise to problem-solving.
• Must be able to assess priorities and determine a course of action with minimal day-to-day supervision and be able to anticipate, recognize and respond effectively to changes that affect project plans.
• Must have an overall business sense and understand how decisions impact business results.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Database experience including SQL queries knowledge a plus.

Additional Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of AB PLC controls and programming.
• Functional knowledge in a programming language such as Linux, C++/Java/Python.
• WIFI network infrastructure and security knowledge and experience preferred.
• Design system layouts and determine operational requirements so that a detailed system flow can be generated.
• Perform all required calculations to validate system throughput and workability.
• Function as a key engineering leader on a wide variety of material-handling solutions projects.
• Management of all project phases such as opportunity evaluation, research of solutions, concept design, proof of concept, specification development through RFQs, integration supplier selection, technical reviews, and solution qualification.
• Ability to incorporate mechanical, electrical, and programming elements of the integration. Support full project lifecycle, from inception to completion.
• Experience with technical training and relationship management.
• Good communication skills, ability to transfer knowledge, and a good understanding of cross-cultural differences.
• Ability to handle issues tactfully and professionally.
• Enjoys complex problem-solving and collaboration.
• Familiar with the use and programming of robots (Fanuc preferred).
• Proficient in AutoCAD 2D.
• Ability to travel 30% (Domestic and Internationally).
