Term General Assistant (Monthly Salary: $13,240)
Designated Projects: a Term General Assistant will be assigned to various projects, to be
specified in the employment contract.
Entry Requirements
Candidates should
(1) (i) have Level 2 or equivalent [Note 1] or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Diploma of
Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) [Note 2], or equivalent; or (ii) Level 2/ Grade
E or above in five subjects in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE)
[Note 2], or equivalent; and
(2) have met the language proficiency requirements of Level 2 (“Grade E” before 2007) or above
in Chinese Language and English Language (“Syllabus B” before 2007) in HKDSEE or
HKCEE, or equivalent.
(Applicants are required to sit for a Chinese and English word processing speed test and a
computer skill test, and have preferably an English typing speed of 40 words per minute, a
Chinese word processing speed of 20 words per minute and proficiency in MS Word and MS
Excel. The following input methods will be provided for the Chinese word processing speed
test – ChangJie, New ChangJie 2010, Quick, New Quick 2010, Phonetic and New Phonetic
2010.)
Note
1. For appointment purpose, “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of
two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE
are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
2. The subjects may include Chinese Language and English Language.
Main Duties
A Term General Assistant will be deployed to work in any or a combination of work below.
Duties mainly include:
(1) providing general administration and clerical support including (i) record management;
(ii) office administration duties; and (iii) preparing correspondence and returns and
conducting information search relating to the following functional areas: general office
support, personnel, finance and accounts, customer services, departmental support such as
registration, statistics and information technology support etc. and/or
(2) providing general secretarial support including (i) English and Chinese word-processing;
(ii) screening and preparing documents; (iii) scheduling and preparing for meetings;
(iv) receiving and liaising with principals’ contacts, guests or visitors; and (v) handling
enquiries and complaints; etc.

A Term General Assistant may be posted to any offices in any district of Hong Kong. Having
regard to operational circumstances, they may be required to work irregular hours or shifts or
perform outdoor duties.
Terms of Appointment
Successful candidates will be appointed on Housing Authority temporary terms with an
agreement of a 1-year or 2-year contract to the designated assignment(s) as appropriate. Further
renewal of agreement may be offered subject to satisfactory performance and conduct of the
candidate, and the operational needs. The entry pay, terms of appointment and conditions of
service to be offered are subject to the provision prevailing at the time the offer of appointment is
made.
Fringe Benefits
A contract-end gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the 1-year contract with
consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, plus any contribution
made by the Housing Authority to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) Scheme in respect of the
appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will equal to 10% of the total basic salary
drawn during the contract period. Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual
leave, sick leave, sickness allowance, maternity leave and employees’ compensation, where
appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Minimum Wage Ordinance, the
Employment Ordinance and the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance.

experience at the application stage. However, holders of academic qualifications other than
those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment
