In addition to the transaction-by-transaction approval process, the risk officers manage their portfolios and advice senior management on the strategic direction in terms of risk appetite and portfolio steering in sectors and products.
In addition, the TA&A teams are engaged in strategic projects covering sector analysis, risk appetite direction, EBA LOM related projects, reporting, climate change and a wide range of other related initiatives covering the wider credit strategy of ING.
Our department employs ~50 persons and is organized over three clusters:
Portfolio (SME + Midcorp €5m of lending assets)
Sector (Midcorp teams + WB NL team)
Specialized Lending (Private Lending + Real Estate Financing + Structured Debt & Equity)
Sector consists of 24 FTE, divided among 4 teams:
Trade, Retail, Automotive, Transport & Logistics (Midcorp)
Industry, Construction, Public & Healthcare (Midcorp)
Food, Agriculture, Leisure & Services (Midcorp)
Corporate Sector Lending NL (WB)
The role
We are looking for a dynamic and eager banker to work in the team responsible for Sector. The Senior Risk Officer (SCO) is responsible for advising and managing client transactions from originating to closing from a credit risk perspective. In addition, the SCO manages the credit risk of the respective portfolios. The SCO is the primary point of contact for front office for her/his portfolio and safeguards the risk appetite of the bank in balance with a sound commercial sense. The SCO is the product/sector expert and exhibits deep specialized knowledge on the relevant sectors, markets and/or products.
The team
We are a dynamic team, cooperate with Front Office, focused on taking responsible credit risks and working closely together, stepping in for each other where needed. The timelines of requests are usually demanding hence flexibility and a ‘can do‘ mentality is important. If suitable, increased responsibilities will be granted to make sure the personal learning curve is sufficiently steep. The primary language in our team and with our stakeholders is Dutch, so fluency in this language is essential. Your position will be based in Amsterdam and you will report to the lead Sector.
Roles and responsibilities
Recommending and deciding on credit applications for new transactions, modifications and reviews
Establishing of and/or advising on risk appetite for the relevant portfolios or products
Developing and maintaining relationships with (senior) management and other relevant internal and/or external stakeholders
Ensuring the quality, policy compliance and consistency of the credit application and that transactions meet the conditions of approval as set out in the credit process
Closely monitoring the portfolio in your focus sectors and proposing corrective actions and improvements to senior management
Further enhancing the portfolio monitoring if and where desirable
Acting as a back-up for other teams within Sector
Working closely with front office peers and relevant support departments
Training and coaching of junior team members
Participating in projects and actively providing input/developing relevant risk policies and reports

We are looking for
3+ years of experience in a lending environment, excellent credit analysis skills and a good understanding of legal documentation
Strong personality, self-starter, hands on, with ability and eagerness to learn and high integrity standards
Display seniority and persuasiveness
An independent thinker, not afraid to provide a different point of view and open to the exchange of ideas
Team player, social, enjoying collaboration across the bank and committed to help others
Willingness to invest in specialized sector knowledge and ability to link this sector expertise with current sector trends
Affinity with data, data analysis and automated credit decision making automation
Good communication skills (verbal and in writing), and fluent in Dutch and English
Preferably an academic background (Msc) in e.g. Finance, Business or Economics
