General Operator – PANEL

(Permanent, Contract, Full time, Part-time)

The post holder will work under the Technical Services Department and report to the Maintenance Foreman, Engineering Officer or other designated officer.

Responsibilities – The post holder will be responsible for;

Maintain a flexible approach to performance of duties.

Have a working knowledge of medical gases and their uses

Maintain stock levels in stores including ordering and returns, safe storage and delivery to hospital as requested.

Light maintenance work and repairs including painting where necessary.

General cleaning duties in all areas, in particular areas accessed by the public.

Keeping Car Park or outbuildings and areas in which waste is stored in a clean and tidy condition.

Assist in the collection/transportation/assembly/dismantling of office equipment.

Assist in moving and relocating office furniture as required.

Maintain logs and records relating to works carried out.

Have knowledge of the building management systems within the properties

Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all back of house areas that fall under the remit of TSD.

Maintain equipment in good working order

Repair faulty equipment or minor repairs (within expertise) of beds, chairs, window latches, door handles, etc.

Up keep of gardens and green areas, plants as necessary

Assessment of any leaks within scope.

Patch macadam, tar and chippings.

Cleaning of car parks, footpaths, access roads and road gullies

Assist as required in the collection and disposal of all waste streams as required

Assist in the management and upkeep of all associated areas involved in waste collections and disposal

Attend all mandatory training programmes relevant to the post

Familiarise himself / herself with the Fire Fighting Equipment and the Fire & Safety Regulations in operation at the campus.

• Familiarise himself / herself with the code of Safe Lifting Practice and to adhere to same at all times

Eligibility Criteria:

Experience, etc Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition

• Experience in building construction and maintenance.
• Knowledge of plant and machinery relevant to the role.
• Demonstrate experience in the measurement of materials.
• Demonstrate an ability to organise tools and equipment to complete maintenance and project work.
• Demonstrate knowledge of general preventative maintenance.

Post specific Requirements

• Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in building and grounds maintenance in a healthcare environment as relevant to the role.

Other requirements specific to the post

• Due to the nature of the business of the department, some of the works will be conducted outdoors, on roofs, etc. and in difficult weather conditions. The post holder will be required to work in all weather conditions when requested to do so, or when circumstances dictate.
• The post holder may be required to participate in an on-call rota system for emergency call outs.
• As the maintenance service is a 24 hour service, overtime may be required periodically.
• The successful candidate may be required to work in any area of the MUH campus at any time.
• Candidates should live within a reasonable travel time of the respective Maintenance Department, in order that emergencies can be responded to within a reasonable period of time.
• Be part of a team when required to action or manage weather warnings as they arise subject to requirements to maintain service.
