Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking an Athletics Clinical or Counseling Psychologist to provide embedded clinical services in Athletics, with the goal of enhancing student-athlete personal, academic, and athletic success and reducing barriers to that success. This position provides culturally affirming services including initial consultations, brief individual therapy, group therapy and workshops, and crisis assessment and intervention to a diverse student-athlete population. They assess the unique mental health needs of student-athletes and develop innovative services to serve these specific mental health needs. This position brings expertise and experience in working with student-athletes to their role as a trainer and potentially as a clinical supervisor in a large training program that includes practicum counselors, an American Psychological Association-accredited doctoral internship, and post-doctoral psychology residents. They provide outreach presentations and activities tailored to the specific mental health needs of students from historically excluded groups. This position builds effective, collaborative relationships throughout the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. They provide complex professional consultation and education to a large multidisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications :
A doctoral degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology and completion of pre-doctoral internship.
License eligible in the state of Washington.
Excellent clinical skills and experience providing brief, focused clinical services.
Experience working with high-risk concerns (e.g. suicide, eating disorders, substance abuse, PTSD) and providing risk assessment and crisis appointments.
Experience and commitment to providing services to diverse student populations including, but not limited to, BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, undocumented, migrant, and immigrant students, international students, and veterans.
Demonstrated experience working with student-athletes, in clinical work and in outreach/other programming.
Knowledgeable about the rules and regulations of the NCAA, and able to quickly learn and adhere to the rules and regulations of the PAC-12 Conference and Washington State University.
Desired Qualifications :
Graduate of an APA-accredited doctoral program as well as an APA-accredited doctoral internship (for doctoral applicants).
Previous work experience providing mental health services to student-athletes in high profile-intercollegiate athletics setting.
Demonstrated experience and appropriate certification/training working with student-athlete populations in the following areas: disordered eating and eating disorders, substance abuse assessment and intervention, LD and ADHD.
Proficiency and interest in psychological assessment: administration, interpretations, and report-writing.
Experience facilitating psychotherapy groups and workshops with student-athletes.
Experience providing outreach to student-athletes and consultation on a university campus.
Experience and interest providing clinical supervision and training to graduate-level trainees.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary setting.
