Here, we produce all of the pot still and grain whiskey that makes up Irish Distillers’ six Irish whiskey families. From the Garden Still House containing the world’s largest operating copper pot stills to our experimental hub at the Micro Distillery, Midleton Distillery is a world leader in whiskey production.
As a global company we are always looking for great talent, and here at Midleton Distillery our Quality Team are now hiring a QC Analytical Chemist for a Full Time Permanent Position.
What’s involved
The ideal candidate will have specific interest and experience in analytical chemistry (e.g. Ion Chromatography and Gas Chromatography used for water and spirit analysis).
The role will also provide cover for routine analysis on cereals, intermediates, byproducts and utilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting analysis according to laboratory procedures.
- Responsibility for calibration, troubleshooting and validation/verification of chromatography instruments.
- Setting up samples for sensory analysis and managing sample retains where required.
- Writing test reports and trending of data where required.
- Identifying and communicating incidents and non-conformances when laboratory analysis results and site specifications and procedures are not met.
- Adhering to occupational health and safety risk assessment and ensuring that Health & Safety is a priority in the laboratory.
- Providing KPI (key performance indicator) information.
- Write, review and update laboratory procedures and records.
- Implementation of continual improvement in the laboratory including new and improved methods of analysis.
- Liaising with manufacturers on equipment services and calibrations and documentation as required.
What are we looking for?
- 3rd level qualification in Science (Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry/Food Science).
- 4+ years’ experience working in a laboratory with ISO/BRC/ pharmaceutical standards.
- Experience in analytical chemistry
- Excellent analytical skills, high level of attention to detail required.
- Experience in writing reports and trending of data.
- Good organisational skills required to work in a fast-paced production laboratory.
- Proactive approach to Health & Safety.
- Team player with excellent communication skills, self-starter, highly motivated.

Flexibility in working hours is required as this role will require working a shift pattern that covers weekends and evenings.
