Job Overview and Responsibilities
GEC is currently looking for a Materials & Corrosion Engineer who will join the Materials & Corrosion team with corrosion and metallurgy engineers, as well as non destructive testings and inlet water treatments experts who are supported by a team of lab technicians. You will report hierarchically to the Manager of the GEC Materials & Corrosion Department.
You will carry out your work in collaboration with other GEC disciplines (like Mechanical, Design office,…), with the Process Engineering teams (GEC and Business Units) and with Research & Innovation (R&I) teams, dealing with the management of new Solvay projects.
Mission
Provide support in the field of material selection, to our plants, to the Industrial Function for CAPEX projects and to R&I for Innovation projects. This includes understanding the chemistry of the manufacturing process and analyzing the process data (with the support of Process engineers) in order to choose the right material, considering several parameters: safety, cost, corrosion resistance.
Key Responsibilities
Education and Experience
The applicant (M/F) should hold a Ph. D. degree in Electrochemistry or Materials science with a topic related to the study of corrosion behavior and mechanism. An experience in the field of Materials & Corrosion for the Chemical and Process Industry (CPI) is welcome but not mandatory.
Skills
You have a strong customer service orientation, good interpersonal skills facilitating teamwork and relationship with internal customers (GBUs) and suppliers, in order to gain their trust. You are able to work on several projects in parallel and to manage the associated priorities. You are able to learn from the literature but also from existing experiences (REX) in our plants. Spirit of innovation and new solution finding is welcome in order to continuously improve Solvay’s process performance (Reliability, Corrosion monitoring…). You will maintain the quality of reporting and archiving for the field of the material selection..
You are fluent in English and French, both spoken and written. You are particularly comfortable with the use of Office software.
