Position Overview

Under the direction of the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, the Director of Pet Products will direct and manage the pet/animal sales organization and lead the strategic planning activities for this group at Standard Process. This position will develop the vision and strategies required to maximize sales of Standard Process Pet/Animal product lines via an omni-channel approach. This position will provide oversight and supervision for sales management infrastructure, sales representatives, distributors and channel partners. This position will also establish and implement sales best practices.

Functions

• Leadership
  • Develop, lead and execute a full-funnel, cross channel sales strategy for our Pet/Animal line.
  • Drive strategic planning with senior leadership, ensuring day-to-day and near-term work aligns with our long-term strategy.
  • Motivate the sales force and others to pursue vision/strategies.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model to members of the sales force and others.
• Management
  • Hire and develop a world-class team of customer focused sales professionals to launch and scale our revamped Pet/Animal business in 2022 and beyond.
  • Manage information by collecting, monitoring, analyzing and drawing conclusions from sales volumes and numbers of Pet/Animal accounts and consumers.
  • Develop a vision and roadmap for tools and automation to scale and support capabilities in the organization.
  • Own the P&L for our B2B and B2C segments and manage key inputs to the business to ensure we are delivering on our plans while complying with the annual sales budget process.
  • Identify and develop policies and procedures that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the sales force.
  • Monitor and analyze the competitive landscape and perceptions of the product to inform opportunities for growth, innovation and brand positioning.
  • Foster effective communication between and within the Standard Process sales force.
  • Be hands on where needed to deliver against objectives.
• Business Development
  • Partner with the Leadership on the development of a value creation business strategy for the Pet/Animal line.
  • Develop capabilities (people, process & technology) to enable account management, engagement and performance management and cross selling of pet/animal products across multiple channels.
  • Lead the identification, evaluation and development of acquisition, investment and partnership opportunities.
  • Negotiate high stakes and complex partnerships across key accounts.
  • Be a key voice and champion for veterinarians and end consumers, their key pain points, unmet needs and existing workflows to deliver a best-in-class experience at every touchpoint across their journey.
  • Manage deal and portfolio investment plan expenditures and delivery against goals.
  • Ensure the preparation of the analytical preparatory work and provide diligence support for all transactions (examples could include comparable deal analysis, financial modeling and simulations, NPV analysis, preparing and setting up diligence files, financing documents, etc.).
  • Lead/co-lead out-license/partnership discussions.
  • Lead/co-lead efforts to in-license additional programs.
• Training
  • Identify and document sales best practices.
  • Develop a comprehensive, multi-faceted training program focused on sales theory, strategies, tactics and practices.
  • Develop proprietary sales force training.
• Information and Advocacy
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Standard Process Pet/Animal products.
  • Understand and advocate the whole food philosophy.
• Partner with Business Intelligence & Analytics to forecast performance and recourses needed.
• Partner with Marketing and Education to create dynamic content, programs and events for veterinarians and for our Pet/Animal line altogether.
• Help Marketing, Education, Product and Sales teams to understand the impact of initiatives and where there are opportunities for growth and innovation in the Pet/Animal line.
• Attend and present at conferences.

Qualifications Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Sales, Marketing or related field required.
• Master’s Degree preferred.

Certifications/Licenses

• Valid Driver’s License required.

Experience

• 8-10+ years of omni-channel sales management experience preferably in pet/animal pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or natural products industries.
• 5+ years of outside sales experience.
• 5+ years in business development experience.
• Experience managing sales representatives in a pet/animal pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or natural products environment.
• Experience developing and administering sales training programs.
• Experience analyzing sales and demographic data.
• Experience with the development of sales objectives, strategies, and tactics.
• Experience developing or contributing to the development of incentive-based sales compensation systems.
• Experience reporting and presenting on sales data and activities.
• Experience with successful collaborations and/or partnerships including experience in negotiating and closing business deals.
• Experience in customizing, launching and utilization of CRM database.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of the pet/animal pharmaceutical and natural products marketplaces.
• Knowledge of sales and marketing principles, progressive sales management techniques, and incentive sales compensation programs.
• Knowledge of the product development process, stage gates, and planning.
