Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for over 50 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. The College also provides non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry.
Full-time position serving as a Blue Ridge Community College advisor for high school students in general and those enrolled in secondary to postsecondary transitional programs. The Career Coach helps students develop individualized educational career plans and relays information on postsecondary education and training options to include 2-year associate degrees, college transfer opportunities and other career options, such as the military and career and technical schools. Works with high school faculty, counselors, and transitional program coordinators. Assists students and their parent/guardian in preparing financial aid applications and community college admissions materials. Travel may be required between multiple high schools in BRCC service region. Position is available at Rocktown High School in Harrisonburg, Virginia, but additional similar positions in BRCC service region may be filled from this recruitment
Minimum Qualifications:
Skilled use of personal computers to input data, produce reports, manage records, track participants, and provide services via online platforms as needed; outstanding written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, business and industry, the general public and education institutions; experience working in an advisory or counseling capacity; and the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in student or career counseling; administrative experience with the financial aid process and student information systems, such as PeopleSoft; working knowledge of academic requirements for high school, community colleges, workforce and career opportunities; cultural competency. Bilingual language skills in English/Spanish and/or Arabic.
