Seton Hall’s Department of Information Technology supports the mission and strategic vision of the University by using technology to enhance and transform teaching and learning, with the goal of achieving distinction in both academics and scholarship. Effectively communicating DoIT initiatives and programs internally to the University community facilitates the successful implementation of these efforts. Promoting these same efforts to prospective students and employees through all types of media, including social media, facilitates attracting students and employees who can achieve excellence in all fields of their academic or employment life at the University. The job of the Communications Director will be to create and deploy a communications plan that supports DoIT’s mission and goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and evaluate the IT communications strategy. As part of this strategy, the director will develop and manage an annual calendar of planned communications and outreach and recurring communications, such as newsletter and administrative reports. Such communications include ensuring that all University constituencies keep informed about the new and existing IT resources at the start of the academic year, implementation of strategic initiatives such as changes in infrastructure, and training and development opportunities of IT resources that support the academic mission of the University.
Coordinate a cross-functional team that supports the use and development of third party and open-source solutions, as well as integration with existing infrastructure and services that enhance the department’s mission and the University’s strategic plan. Promote and lead continuous research & development of new technologies and emerging business cases supporting initiatives to drive security, scalability, efficiency, cost, and customer experience improvements.
Direct the analysis and optimization of the department of information technology’s business processes to improve overall University performance. Participate in the development of business process related policies and the implementation of University-wide business process initiatives to help departments across the campuses to utilize University technology and drive efficiencies. Lead the study of operational and performance data and identify opportunities to align business processes with information technology.
Coordinate webpage and knowledgebase maintenance and ensure that new and consistent information is posted regularly. Establish and implement regular review procedures for the various areas within IT to maintain content accuracy and freshness through regular audits and gap analysis of the IT website and knowledgebase system. Review the presentation layer for the IT website and provide direction for website redesign that meets the continually evolving IT information needs of all University constituencies.
Coordinate all planned service and outage communications, such as the Department’s annual summer maintenance as well as insure that all service and outage communications are distributed via the many communications networks available to DoIT, including social media, telephone/text messaging, web and portal.
Generate online content that engages targeted audiences and decide who, where and when to disseminate. Coordinate the information that is pushed through IT’s social media accounts. Track and measure engagement of communications through available analytics. Establish success metrics and develop communication plans based upon the Google analytics platform that provides usage statistics for both the external website as well as the University’s portal.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in English, Writing, Communications or Journalism
