ROLE SUMMARY
The Nurse Technician provides direct patient care under the supervision of an RN. The Nurse Technician assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), changes dressings, and performs other treatments and procedures in accordance with the training received through their nursing degree program and WA State regulations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Gathers information about the patient and administers nursing care, including taking vital signs and observing signs and symptoms of disease/illness.
2. Assists patients with ADLs, including, but not limited to, feeding, bathing, toileting, basic hygiene, skin care and mobility (ambulating, turning, positioning, and range of motion); provides such additional care as might be required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients.
3. Performs a variety of advanced patient care tasks as delegated by an RN, including, but not limited to, sterile dressing changes and wound irrigation, finger sticks for capillary blood glucose testing and urinary catheterizations, all in accordance with formal training received through their nursing degree program and Washington State regulations.
4. Collects, delivers and conducts routine tests on patient specimens.
5. Escorts or transports patients to various hospital locations.
6. Cleans assigned area; stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Current enrollment in a Registered Nurse ADN or BSN degree program and completion of at least one academic term that included a clinical component.
Experience: Previous hospital experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) licensure as a Nursing Technician-Registered
required before beginning employment. American Heart Association BLS required.
